Here's how the Quad County teams have fared over the first two weeks of the season.
Wilson Fike - (3-0, 2-0) Defeated last seasons 3rd placed QCC Team South Johnston 9-0 and followed that with a 9-0 win over conference opponent Smithfield Selma. The team dropped a total of 15 games in both matches combined which included 12 singles matches and 6 doubles matches! On Friday, they defeated 4A powerhouse New Hanover, 6-3.
CB Aycock - (3-0, 3-0) Defeated Wilson Hunt 9-0, defeated East Wake 9-0, and defeated last season's 3rd place team South Johnston 8-1. The Falcons have won 23 singles and doubles matches combined while only dropping 1! The Falcons travel to West Johnston in the battle of the 3-0 teams next Monday.
West Johnston - (2-0, 3-0) After losing 4 players out of their top 6 and only returning 3 players off of last years (9-6) 4th placed QCC Team, the Wildcats have started the season on a 3 match winning streak. The team defeated conference opponents Southern Wayne 8-1, East Wake 9-0, and defeated a solid much improved Rosewood Eagles Team 6-3. The Wildcats host #8 ranked CB Aycock in the battle of the unbeatens on Monday!
Wilson Hunt - (2-1, 2-1) Began the season with a loss to 8th ranked CB Aycock 9-0 but was able to bounce back and defeat QCC conference opponent Southern Wayne 8-1 They then were able to pull out a close 6-3 win over conference opponent Smithfield Selma to improve their record to 2-1. The Warriors will have 2 rainouts to make up early next week before travleing to currently undefeated West Johnston on Wednesday!
South Johnston - (1-2, 1-2) After a 3rd placed finish in in the alway tough QCC the Trojans began their season with a 9-0 win over conference opponent Smithfield Selma, a 9-0 loss to #2 ranked Wilson Fike 9-0, and an 8-1 loss to #8 ranked CB Aycock. This was a very tough 3 match stretch for South, but their season goals remain intact! The Trojans host QQC opponent Southern Wayne next Tuesday.
Southern Wayne - (1-2, 1-2) The Saints defeated East Wake 8-1, lost to West Johnston 8-1, and lost to Wilson Hunt 8-1 to open the season. They will host Smithfield Selma next Monday!
Smithfield Selma - (0-3, 0-3) The Spartans opened the season with a 9-0 loss to conference opponent and last years 3rd placed team South Johnston, they then play at #2 ranked Wilson Fike and suffered a 9-0 loss, and finished the week with a close 6-3 loss at home to Wilson Hunt. The Spartans play at Southern Wayne on Monday!
East Wake - (0-3, 0-3) The Warriors suffered an 8-1 loss to Southern Wayne to open the season and followed that with a 9-0 loss to #8 ranked CB Aycock. This week, they traveled to conference opponent and undefeated West Johnston and came away with a 9-0 loss. The Warriors travel to #2 ranked Wilson Fike next Monday!
