Hey Coaches,

Pardon my ignorance if this has already been discussed or addressed but I wanted to confirm that there is no issue to have a voluntary tennis ladder for high school tennis players to use during the off-season (especially during dead periods). Since it is voluntary, I don't believe that it is against the rules but it will require me to help set it up so I can't have complete plausible deniability :)

Just wanted to check with those in the know before getting things set up.

Thanks for any information you can provide!

Best,

Chris Lee

My first and best advice is to discuss this with your athletic director.

Second, to the best of my knowledge, the "skill development" regulations only speak to your working directly with your players. If the ladder matches are played without you being present, and it's a truly voluntary program, then you should be fine. Everybody will need to understand that they're playing at their own risk, and that the school's insurance doesn't cover for accident or injury.

One other thought would be to open the ladder up to the whole school population, or even the community at large. Might make it more interesting, and would further distinguish what you're doing from an official school practice activity.

But, first, before anything else, have that conversation with your athletic director.

Good luck.
