South Point High School men's tennis coach Sean Harmon was awarded the 2025 USTA North Carolina High School Coach of the Year Award on Saturday, January 31st at the Carolina Hotel in Pinehurst at the annual Tennis Weekend Awards Banquet.

"I am honored to have been selected to receive this award and all the credit goes to an amazing group of young men that always put the team first and never focus on individual goals. They have earned everything that they have achieved and I am thankful that they allow me to be their coach as I could not be more proud of each and every one of them, " said Coach Harmon.

Harmon's Red Raiders won the 3-A men's tennis state dual team championships in 2024 and 2025, posting a record of 36-1 in those two seasons.    He has coached South Point for five years and has a career record of 65-5.

James Dover and Rex Dover brought home the school's first state championship in men's doubles in the spring of 2025 at the Burlington Tennis Center.  South Point has sent representatives to the state tourament the last four years.

Coach Harmon also encourages excellence in the classroom.   His teams won Scholar-Athlete team awards from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association in 2024 and 2025.   The team average was above 3.95 both years.
